Maciej “Animisiewasz” Grochot is not only a designer of posters and album covers, but he also creates music in a DJ tandem named Piękni Chłopcy. His artwork created for the album entitled “Rotations” proves that musical and visual dimensions may wonderfully complement each other. The wavy three-dimensional texture brings to mind timeless forms described by the laws of mathematics.

The 11th album cover which won the jury’s recognition is the design by Krzysztof Wroński created for the band Kiev Office. The cover of the album entitled “Statek Matka” clearly refers to Gdynia – the town that Kiev Office is connected with. Thanks to numerous references to the local life and history included in the lyrics listeners can feel its atmosphere. But this is not only from this aspect that the album is exceptional. The songs are tuneful and catchy, while a well crafted cover indicates the indie character of the album.

After designing the album cover of the previous album by Katarzyna Groniec Paweł Wroniszewski was nominated for the Fryderyk award – one of the most prestigious music awards in Poland. The artwork designed for the album “Wiszące Ogrody” is different with respect to its form, but it reflects the poetic atmosphere of the artist’s music equally well.
The cover designed for “Wiszące Ogrody” is perhaps the most “feminine” of all entries. It heralds a journey to the inner parts of the soul, one that is full of passion and sensitivity. An excellent song entitled “Przetańczyłam już wszystko” exemplifies the atmosphere of the whole album.

The exhibition following the “30 / 30” contest also includes covers of albums representing genres other than popular music. Several of the selected covers illustrated albums containing classical music. One such example is the cover designed by Agnieszka Zakrzewska for the album by Jerzy Mądrawski, one of the most renowned Polish accordion players, accompanied by other excellent accordionists. “Akordeonowe impresje” is a must-have for any fan of the accordion.

Two artists may be said to have dominated the “30 / 30” contest, as they each managed to submit four successful entries. One of them is Mateusz Holak whose design created for the band Happysad surprised, in the positive sense of the word, with its clarity and visual simplicity.
